About Kathryn Sowinski:
My goal as a contemporary abstract artist is to create beautifully rendered paintings exploring color and mood. I became interested in abstraction in high school and studied painting and art education at the Maryland Institute College of Art. My most recent works are gouache and watercolor paintings inspired by spontaneous mark-making, doodles, scribbles, and explorations in children’s art and the art studio.
My artistic process begins with loose mark-making and gestures. I focus on being present and mindful about what is occurring in the artwork. I continue responding to the imagery, using a combination of gestural marks and carefully controlled observational painting, creating and destroying. The paintings are evocative of natural elements, landscapes, seascapes, and microbiology.
